Carioca’s stylish design was created by Knut Ljungberg, one of many immortal classics from this well-known boat designer from Stockholm. The original drawing was commissioned by the west coast Krüger family in 1937. This drawing was used a few years later as the basis for the construction of PEPITA. Arvidsson’s Söner Båtvarv in Göteborg with great skill built a boat that, even by today’s standards, can be called a spacious cruiser. The lines and hull shape are very typical of the period with a full bow and good height of the freeboards. The windshield sweeps elegantly across the stern and harmoniously ties into the boat’s profile.
Carioca is a double-cabin classic motorboat with very spacious cockpit and cabins. In the bow there is a V-berth with room for 2-3 people. The cabin’s beautiful exposed clinker hull is lined with highly-varnished mahogany timber strips – at once affording extra strength, and promoting best ventilation for air. On the starboard side there is a stainless steel cooler with compressor. The cockpit is equipped with a sofa at the helm position which gives the skipper a full overview of the boat. The bonnet also functions as a sofa aft for two people. A folding table in combination with the wide sofa in the stern creates the perfect environment for enjoying lovely summer days. The aft cabin has two wide full-length berths with comfortable cushions. The boat is safe at sea and has a maximum speed of about 20 knots.
This boat, PETITA, has only had two owners during her 75 years at sea. Her current owner has owned her since 1995. She has been maintained and used throughout her life with the same routine maintenance and is still in excellent condition. PEPITA remains largely original except for the dog house over the stern which has been raised to create more space. The owner has had the boat inspected every 5 years to ensure seaworthiness and function.
If you’re looking for one of Sweden’s best-preserved wooden motorboats with a unique provenance, you shouldn’t miss this one!
