When the Najad 511 model was launched in 2003 it was the flag ship from Najadvarvet at this time. It was developed from the successful Najad 490.
Najad 511 is designed by Judel/Vrolijk. The Najad 511 is a relatively fast cruising yacht with a fine sharp bow, a deep bilge with a bolted lead keel and a skeg hung rudder. The Najad 511 is a mile munching cruising yacht, capable of crossing any ocean in the best style and comfort.
Najad 511, NIKE is a very special yacht. She was built for her current (and first) owners to MCA Category Zero which incorporates a high degree of ocean safety, such as solid storm covers that can be securely installed at skylights and portlight, automatic fire extinguisher, properly secured batteries, tinned electrical wiring, storm jib and trysail and various safety equipment.
Sailing wise, NIKE comes with an electric in-mast furling mast, 2 x electric furling head sails, 5 electrical winches, hydraulic boom vang and aft stay operated from the cockpit, which makes sail handling easy and effortless – perfect for a small crew.
The interior includes an owner’s aft cabin with en-suite heads / shower, a longitude galley, navigation table and a saloon with a sofa and two comfortable chairs. In front of the mast bulkhead, which is laminated to the hull and the deck, you will find two guest cabins, one with a V-berth and one with bunk beds and a heads with shower.
In fact, I was working as project manager at Najad when building this yacht. Together with the owner couple, we had many discussions about what equipment should be installed and how various items should be designed in order to turn NIKE into a safe and comfortable ocean going yacht. In the end it turned out to be one of the best equipped Najad yachts, especially when it comes to be easy handling by a small crew.
NIKE has about 50,000 Nm beneath her keel. She has been meticulously maintained from the beginning and has been updated continuously.
This yacht is perfect for a couple or a family to sail the Seven Seas. Being built according to MCA specification she is also capable of being prepared for doing charter at the highest level on any ocean, if this is a requirement for her new owner.
