The Najad 441 is a popular yacht for sailors aiming for serious sailing, and a yacht that can handle any ocean. The Najad 441 has a solid construction with a beautiful flush teak deck. The Najad 441 was developed from its precursor, the successful Najad 440. Even though the dimensions are similar, the Najad 441 has a new hull design, the balsa core is replaced by divinycell, it has a NACA (small) wing in the bottom of the keel, a semi balanced rudder and an integrated swim platform in the stern.

Najad 441 ALKIRA will be sailed to Sweden during the spring and summer of 2022 by its current owner. The owner is happy to show the yacht in suitable harbours en route to Sweden and to sell it before it arrives to our showing dock in Henån on the Swedish west coast.

Owner’s Comments

This Najad 441 was bought from the Najad Shipyard in 1999 and has been named ALKIRA since then. The name comes from an Aboriginal language, meaning ‘Bright and Sunny’.

The first owner was an English marine officer who let the typical ‘Najad Red’ trim lines turn into ‘British Racing Green’.

He sailed as far as the Pacific Ocean – if he did the whole lap around the world, I don’t know. After that, at least two English gentlemen have owned ALKIRA and sailed her mainly in the Caribbean, before the previous owner, a chief and agent from the British merchant fleet, took over Najad 441 ALKIRA in about 2012.

He sailed her from Southampton to Greece/Turkey. I bought ALKIRA in 2017, when she was in the area of Athens. So now ALKIRA finally has found her first Swedish owner, back home, you could say.

Our journey has gone from Albania, around the Peloponnese, up to and around the Aegean Sea, Istanbul, a small lap into the Black Sea and down the Turkish coast. We turned back at the south coast Antalya. During COVID-19 (2020), I replaced the teak deck in Kusadasi, south Izmir. Here I found a fantastic carpenter who could repair most things. Wood work, rigs and sails. Here we also purchased a new sprayhood and bimini. The rig was taken down for service of the in-mast furler and a total overhaul of the windlass was also done. After this ALKIRA was taken back west.

In autumn 2020 and spring 2021, ALKIRA was sailing in splendid isolation due to COVID-19 restrictions. To Sicily, Italy, Sardinia, the Balearics and the long Spanish coast from Barcelona down to Gibraltar.

In 2022, the sailing will be dedicated to sail back home to Sweden.

This yacht is very comfortable. It is heavy and smooth in the sea. She takes little water on deck and she can take a lot of wind without trouble. I have sailed her in storms up to 50 knots with control. She can sail down to 4-5 knots when tacking. I sailed her for 2 months with only the furling jib until I got the new genoa. Astonishingly well!! You could easily sail her one handed. Bless ALKIRA.
