The Najad 380 is one of the most successful models from the boatyard based on the island of Orust. The yacht is a further development of its predecessor, the Najad 373, and was designed by Judel/Vrolijk & Co.
The Najad 380 offers a well-protected and relatively deep centre cockpit, a fixed windscreen, teak deck, and an integrated bathing platform at the stern. The hull and deck are constructed using a sandwich laminate (Divinycell), which, combined with longitudinal stringers and laminated bulkheads, results in a relatively light and strong construction. The boat has a deep bilge, externally mounted lead keel, and a skeg-hung rudder.
Directly adjacent to the companionway is the navigation station, a bathroom with shower, and a longitudinal galley. There is a spacious aft cabin and a guest cabin in the bow, both with double berths. The saloon features a table with folding leaves and two settees. The interior is made of matte-varnished mahogany.
One sign of the Najad 380’s ocean-going capabilities is the English sailor Jane Socrates’ 339-day nonstop solo circumnavigation of the globe with her Najad 380 NEREIDA.
The Najad 380 SIGNE is a fine and well-maintained yacht. The current (second) owner purchased the yacht through Berthon Scandinavia in 2018. Except for the years 2020 and 2021, when she remained on land due to the pandemic, SIGNE has been used for family sailing during the summer months along Sweden’s east and west coasts. The yacht has always been stored indoors during the winter.
The Najad 380 embodies all the hallmarks of an Orust-built yacht, and SIGNE is a beautiful example.
