The Hallberg-Rassy 43 ranks among our absolute favourites from the renowned Swedish yard, located in Ellös on the island of Orust.
With her timeless lines, protective windscreen, centre cockpit, powerful engine, generous tank capacity and easy-to-handle rig, she offers everything expected from a classic Hallberg-Rassy. Add to that the solid teak interior, practical rubbing strake and two comfortable cabins with en-suite bathrooms, and you have an ideal choice for anyone looking for a well-built cruising yacht of around 20 years, perfectly suited for both sailing and living comfortably on any ocean.
Below deck, the beautifully finished mahogany interior provides a spacious and practical layout. The aft cabin features both a double and a single berth, while the forward cabin offers a V-berth. Each cabin benefits from its own bathroom with shower. The U-shaped galley is conveniently positioned to starboard of the companionway, with the navigation station located opposite to port. The saloon is arranged with an L-shaped sofa, a straight settee and a solid table, and offers ample storage throughout, as expected from Hallberg-Rassy.
Produced between 2001 and 2016, with a total of 199 yachts built, the Hallberg-Rassy 43 is one of the yard’s most successful models and has received numerous prestigious awards worldwide. It is easy to see why, as the model incorporates all the hallmark features of the brand: a single-level interior sole, a proper seagoing galley, excellent protection on deck, reliable engine performance and generous tankage, all combined with elegant and timeless design.
The result is a yacht that delivers excellent sailing performance, generous living space and a well-protected cockpit, where sail handling can be managed easily and efficiently at the push of a button.
Hallberg-Rassy 43, GRAND PERLAGE has been sailed by her current owners since 2022. They have cruised in the Baltic Sea, North Sea, Kattegat, and the English Channel. Since 2022, she has received numerous upgrades, including new batteries, new hatches and windows, new sails, and much more. In 2015, she underwent a major refit including servicing of the engine and onboard systems. In 2018 she was updated with new navigation equipment from Raymarine. This year, the original supplier provided a new set of upholstery and mattresses. Combined with new carpets and curtains, she feels almost like a new yacht inside.
GRAND PERLAGE is a well-equipped yacht, ready for life on board under any conditions. Equipment includes a diesel generator, watermaker, and washing machine. The owners have maintained her to a very high standard, sparing no expense. She offers a reassuring and comfortable feeling on board and is ready for her new crew.
“A timeless beauty” – this is how the chief editor of PALSTEK, a German sailing journal, titled the featured article about our boat (Edition 04/2023), after he had been on board our GRAND PERLAGE. He went on by asking in his article: How are dream sailing boats built? Well, take a shipyard with an excellent reputation that manufactures a boat in an exceptional quality and reliability plus work with a ship designer famous for most elegant lines. Out comes a Hallberg Rassy 43, designed by German Frers.
We can only agree with that assessment.
Our GRAND PERLAGE has been a true companion during our times in the Baltic Sea, North Sea and the Atlantic. She is an eye-catcher in every harbour, well maintained and beautifully designed inside as well as outside. Her sailing characteristics are outstanding, and she was easy to handle for us being a small crew of two. But also, for single-handed sailors she is easy to manoeuvre by pushbutton or hydraulic.
Whatever you can imagine ordering for your new boat, the first owner selected generously and thoughtfully from the options list, opting for features that are both extensive and convenient. We have held the high standards up since then, maintained her every year and replaced or updated the equipment to always keep her in good shape. In winter times, we kept her safe and dry in a heated hall. In summer times, anchoring was always easy and convenient, and you don’t have to compromise on comfort. The watermaker provided us with fresh water. The solar panels and the generator made sure we always had ample energy available. Together with a wireless LAN router this makes sure one can always check emails in case of using the boat as a floating office. Something we have done quite often.
Regarding safety, the centre cockpit design is ideal for sailing when it is getting a little rough out on the sea, especially when sailing with less experienced family members or friends. No one needs leave the cockpit at all in order to sail the boat properly. The windscreen with the sprayhood, the cockpit tent and the bimini top offer protection from water, wind and UV, while sailing or in the marina. The navigation desk offers space for all the relevant navigation equipment, incl. a new VHF, a Satellite phone and a modern Raymarine navigation system is installed in the cockpit.
Cooking to prepare food for the crew while sailing, even in a heeling position, is comfortable, because you are surrounded and protected in the pantry like a bird in its nest. You will always find a solid grip within reach, no matter where you are in the boat.
The aft master cabin and front cabin, both equipped with their own bathrooms with showers, a large, comfy saloon with a huge foldable table with a hidden and quite sizeable bar inside are generous, inviting and at the same time very cozy. There are plenty of lockers and cabinets to stow and to secure everything. Something we learned to appreciate a lot during longer trips.
During our ownership we also invested a lot: new sails, replaced standing and running rigging, new hatches and portholes, service and starter batteries, completely new upholstery & mattresses as well as curtains, and of course a lot of lifeblood and manpower.
So, to put it in one sentence: Our SY GRAND PERLAGE is a fantastic sailing yacht in excellent condition, extremely well equipped and maintained and she is ready to sail wherever the new owner wants to take her. Everybody will envy you for this boat. We certainly will.
