Designed for effortless day sailing, the J/9 places comfort and simplicity at the heart of the sailing experience. Its spacious cockpit is thoughtfully arranged to create a welcoming social area where family and friends can relax in comfort while enjoying time on the water. Deep seating provides excellent support under sail, while the open layout makes it easy to move around on board.
Getting aboard is equally uncomplicated. The integrated swim platform offers convenient walk-through access from the stern, making boarding safe and easy for both children and older crew members. It also creates a perfect spot for a refreshing swim or simply trailing your feet in the water during a gentle sail.
Under sail, the J/9 is remarkably easy to handle. Thanks to its stable hull form and generous mainsail, the yacht delivers enjoyable performance even under mainsail alone, allowing a single person to cast off and be sailing within minutes. When additional performance is desired, the self-tacking jib or optional Code 0 can be deployed quickly from the fixed carbon bowsprit.
The cockpit has been designed with clean lines and practical functionality in mind. With no mainsheet traveller crossing the cockpit sole, movement remains unobstructed, while all sail controls are positioned within easy reach. The well-balanced helm keeps steering light and responsive, reducing fatigue and making the yacht equally enjoyable for experienced sailors and newcomers alike.
For longer passages or whenever you want both hands free, the autopilot provides effortless course keeping, allowing you to relax and enjoy the sail. Combined with the J/9’s perfectly balanced helm, it makes both single-handed sailing and short-handed cruising remarkably easy, without compromising the spacious cockpit layout. At the helm, the J/9 offers the direct, responsive feel that has become a hallmark of J Boats. Every movement of the tiller is translated instantly into smooth, precise control, creating an engaging sailing experience in all conditions. When the day is over, the tiller folds neatly away, transforming the cockpit into a generous and inviting space for relaxing in the harbour or at anchor.
J/9, GRIT, is in excellent ”as new” condition. This particular J/9 combines easy handling with an impressive level of performance. Equipped with an extensive North Sails wardrobe, the yacht is prepared for a wide range of wind conditions, while the advanced B&G navigation and sailing electronics provide accurate data and excellent support whether cruising or racing. The combination of a lightweight hull, efficient sail plan and high-quality equipment makes the J/9 lively, responsive and rewarding to sail in virtually any conditions.
The yacht has also demonstrated its capabilities on the racecourse, achieving excellent regatta results while remaining true to its character as an enjoyable and forgiving daysailer. It is equally at home competing around the buoys as it is enjoying a relaxed afternoon sail with family and friends.
We bought J/9, GRIT new from J Boats in the USA and received delivery in September 2023. She has been a true joy to sail her over these 3 years, very satisfied.
The purpose has been to use the boat mainly for day sailing but also to participate in some races each year. The boat is very well balanced and fun to sail. You can sail here easily with one to two people without compromising the sailing, thanks to the autopilot, self-tacking jib, and roller furling genoa. Up to 4-6 people also works well without feeling cramped. I have supplemented the boat with a few more trimming options compared to the original set-up. Mainsheet with larger gear ratio and fine adjustment, adjustment of the jib sheet point, as well as the possibility for windward sheeting and downhaul to the mainsail.
The J/9 performs well on the racecourse with a first place in the starting group and 10th overall in Tjörn Runt.
She has been stored indoors in a heated hall every year and full service has been carried out by the boatyard (Tjörns Yacht Service/Marstrand Yacht).
